The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is a bloated spending bill that has a lot of waste and bad ideas.
Conservatives should get rid of the wasteful spending in the Biden-Harris IRA. However, the IRA did include some traditionally Republican ideas and policies that have received bipartisan support. Conservatives should ensure that good ideas, like nuclear power, are not swept away with the bad, like EVs and other renewable subsidies.
One of those good ideas is a tax credit to keep existing nuclear power plants operating. Section 45U refers to the nuclear production tax credit (PTC), which helps preserve the U.S. fleet of nuclear plants. It is not an open-ended tax credit and provides only what is needed to safeguard American energy security with nuclear power.
Benefits of Nuclear Power:
Part-Time Power Can’t Run a Full-Time Economy.
-
- Nuclear energy consistently delivers around-the-clock power, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, regardless of how sunny, windy, hot, or cold it is.
- Nuclear power produces energy more than 90% of the time, compared to unreliable renewables like wind, which produces energy only 35% of the time.
- Nuclear fuel, the size of a gummy bear, produces the same amount of energy as 1,000 pounds of coal. To generate the same amount of electricity, nuclear power requires thirty-one times less land than solar power and 173 times less than wind farms.
Nuclear energy is the largest clean electricity source in the United States, providing about half of the country’s clean energy.
-
- Nuclear power has allowed us to avoid over 17.2 billion metric tons of emissions since 1995.
American Energy Security:
The Nuclear Production Tax Credit would help maintain America’s energy security and our strategic national security advantage.
-
- Nuclear power plants are a vital part of our nation’s energy security, reducing our reliance on countries like China while ensuring America’s energy independence.
What You Can Do:
Make Your Voice Heard
Call your representative and let them know nuclear power is crucial for American energy independence.

.@POTUS’ IRA is driving up Part D premiums for millions of Medicare beneficiaries, yet Dems like @SenSanders continue to help tout this disastrous legislation. The Biden-Harris @WhiteHouse is misleading the public on their policy’s real impact.
Two weeks from election day, the supposedly independent @FCC is proposing price regulation of #broadband by restricting what data plans companies can offer.
By prohibiting usage-based plans, the FCC would end up increasing prices FOR EVERYONE, including low-data users!
