Today, Gerard Scimeca, Chairman of Consumer Action for a Strong Economy, issued the following statement denouncing the Senate’s passage of the reconciliation package. The detrimental Inflation Reduction Act would allow the government to set prices on prescription drugs.
“The dangerous healthcare policies in Senate Democrats’ reconciliation package are a huge loss for patients and a major black eye to Americans’ healthcare future. Numerous reports and studies from the most esteemed healthcare experts and analysts have repeatedly warned that empowering government to set drug prices would prevent massive amounts of future cures from coming to market, and limit access to medications currently available. Nonetheless, Democrats have prioritized their own political agenda and rammed price controls through the Senate, a move that will only cause lasting damage to patients and their access to critical care. If the House of Representatives sends this reckless legislation to the president’s desk, it will be complicit in causing lasting devastation to patients in need of lifesaving care and force our nation to forfeit its place as the global leader in medical innovation.
“In light of the irrefutable harm this legislation would inflict on the American public and our healthcare system as a whole, CASE firmly opposes the Build Back Broker plan and urges House members to unequivocally oppose it.”
