Today, Gerard Scimeca, Chairman of Consumer Action for a Strong Economy, issued the following statement and letter to Congressional leaders opposing Senate Democrats’ recent drug pricing proposal that would allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices and enforce harsh penalties against drug manufacturers:
“The United States is a leader in medical innovation. Without our investments in research and development, we would not be where we are today. Yet, Senate Democrats have chosen to undermine drug manufacturers in the private sector and support price controls on prescription drugs that have proven to harm patients.
“Ensuring that policies provide safe and efficient health care to all consumers is a priority for CASE, and Democrats’ proposal does not meet that standard. We strongly urge lawmakers to stand firm against this detrimental proposal and oppose any legislation that includes a Medicare ‘negotiation’ scheme.”
