Today Consumer Action for a Strong Economy (CASE) issued a statement praising the decision handed down today in support of the merger between wireless carriers Sprint and T-Mobile, defeating an attempt by a partisan collection of state attorneys general to scuttle the deal as anti-competitive. Said CASE:
The federal court decision today is a tremendous victory for consumers and America’s continued leadership in winning the race to 5G. In ruling in support of the merger, Judge Marrero has confirmed what has already been well-established by the FCC and Department of Justice after their thorough and comprehensive reviews; that New T-Mobile will lead to greater competition in the wireless market by adding a true third nationwide carrier to challenge the current duopoloy of ATT & Verizon. With all obstacles now removed, New T-Mobile can move forward with its blueprint to invest billions in 5G infrastructure that will help close the digital divide and connect more Americans to cutting-edge digital wireless technology. Consumers will benefit from a fiercely competitive wireless industry that will bring more service and innovation to the marketplace, more rapidly, and at lower cost. Just as importantly America will benefit from the combined energy, scale, resources and technologies of these two companies in the critical race to win the global race to 5G, and maintain our nation’s position as the world leader in digital technology.
