(Arlington, Virginia) — Today, CASE Vice President Gerard Scimeca issued a statement, condemning Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s ‘drug pricing’ proposal:
“Today Speaker Pelosi released her long-anticipated drug pricing proposal, filled with poison pills and socialist policies, as expected.
“Speaker Pelosi adopts and gives comfort to foreign states which freeload off of U.S. innovation, adopting their socialist pricing schemes to cap prices in the U.S. market. This policy obliterates the competitive structure of the U.S. market, hurting U.S. companies, workers and patients.
“The plan amounts to nothing more than a gross invasion of U.S. industry by the government, another step towards government takeover and Medicare for All. The penalties and taxes included in the bill are arbitrary and punitive, designed to hurt U.S. businesses and interests.
“In sum, the bill is what we have come to expect from the Speaker and from the Democratic party. By actively attacking U.S. industry, the policies in this proposal will reduce access to cutting-edge cures available to patients, reduce incentives for companies to invest, giving aid and comfort to hostile competitors like China.
“We call on lawmakers and all concerned Americans to reject this government intrusion into our healthcare system. There is too much at stake.”
