Washington, D.C. — Consumer Action for a Strong Economy (CASE) President Matt Kandrach released the following statement in support of Rep. Richard Hudson’s (R-NC) effort to protect the Medicare Part D program:
“Medicare Part D remains one of the most popular and cost-effective government programs, but recent changes made in the Bipartisan Budget Act threaten its success. Specifically, Part D beneficiaries are at risk of facing a steep increase in out-of-pocket expenses – referred to as the ‘cliff’ – and a loss of access to critical life-saving medications as a result of changes to the program’s cost-sharing incentives. CASE applauds Rep. Hudson’s leadership and encourages all members of the House of Representatives to join in his efforts to correct this problem.”
Kandrach added, “Our healthcare system needs dramatic reform through greater transparency and competition so that consumers can make more informed decisions about their health care needs. Medicare Part D has been a success in a large part because of its competitive structure. Now we call on lawmakers to act by signing Rep. Hudson’s letter, make the requisite changes, and protect our nation’s seniors.”
