CASE Applauds FDA For Warning Retailers to Stop Selling Illegal Chinese-Made
Flavored E-Cigarettes, Urges Biden to Finish The Job With Real Enforcement
June 1, 2023
(Alexandria, VA) – Consumer Action for a Strong Economy (CASE) released the following statement today after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued warning letters to 30 retailers for selling illegal Chinese-made disposable e-cigarettes in kid-enticing flavors. Working to close the loophole on these dangerous products driving the youth vaping epidemic, the FDA is finally taking action, stating that “protecting our nation’s youth from…disposable e-cigarettes is a top priority for the FDA.” This follows the FDA issuing a press release last week announcing warning letters to flavored, disposable, foreign-made e-cigarette companies Esco Bars and Breeze. In the release, the FDA acknowledged the reality that “science clearly shows that a majority of youth who use e-cigarettes report that the products they are using are disposable and flavored.”
In response, CASE stated, “We applaud the FDA for finally waking up to the epidemic of illegal Chinese-made disposable vapes in kid-friendly flavors, but words will not be enough. After years of neglect, the only way to protect America’s kids who are hooked on these dangerous products will be through real and meaningful enforcement. We urge the Biden administration to finish the job by getting these illegal products off of American store shelves.”
