CASE Issues Statement Rebuking House Democrats for their
Reckless Approval of the Falsely-Titled “Inflation Reduction Act”
August 12, 2022
Chairman of Consumer Action for a Strong Economy Gerard Scimeca, made the following statement in
response to the House passage of the Democrats’ reconciliation package:
“This tax and spend legislation is an egregious example of lawmakers supporting handouts for insurance
companies over the priorities of Americans. Liberal lawmakers are misleading the public by suggesting
that this proposal would lower patient costs. In reality, patients would pay more as insurers pocket
subsidies while continuing to raise healthcare premiums. The extended Obamacare subsidies were
wasteful in the first place, as the vast majority went to people already with the means to afford
coverage. Democrats refuse to accept this fact and instead continue to prioritize the interests of
insurance middlemen over those of the American people. President Biden has previously stated he
would act to lower healthcare costs for Americans. By signing this bill, the President would be going
back on his word.
“CASE remains firm in its stance that the so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ would only exacerbate rising
healthcare costs for Americans. President Biden must not sign this irresponsible package into law.”
