The following statement from Gerard Scimeca, CASE Vice President, highlighting the true agenda behind recent letters sent by Sen. Elizabeth Warren; Sen. Patty Murray; Sen. Richard Blumenthal; Sen. Richard Durbin; and Sen. Sherrod Brown attacking privately run colleges and Universities and their administrators:
“The usual band of liberal Senate cronies is at it again – attempting to use federal government agencies as weapons to attack their political opponents. This group of Senators just recently sent a letter to the IRS attempting to goad the revenue service into unnecessary harassment of several private colleges and Universities. Now comes a letter dated May 9 from these same Senators to the general counsel at the Dept. of Education, dishonestly questioning the ethics and integrity of a respected chairman of an important education advisory committee and calling for his recusal just before this committee’s next meeting later this month.
“This feeble and inappropriate harassment action is clearly a partisan political play and meant to impugn the integrity of the administrators of private colleges and Universities. It’s well known how this small group of lawmakers does not support private college education – believing state-run, government controlled education is the only proper way to teach students in America today. How wrong they all are.
“We urge the General Counsel at the Dept. of Education to ignore this transparent political stunt and we call on Senators Warren; Blumenthal, Durbin, Murray and Brown to immediately stop strong-arming federal government agencies like the IRS or the Dept. Of Education into taking needless actions against private education.”
